Amazon is fast becoming the most valuable company in the world. 2018 will likely be the year of voice for Amazon. They are furiously promoting their Alexa cloud-based voice service available on tens of millions of devices from Amazon and third-party device manufacturers.
With Alexa, you can build natural voice experiences that offer customers a more intuitive way to interact with the technology they use every day. Amazon is making it very easy for anyone to build with Alexa with cheap, ubiquitous and nearly effortless integration of their Alexa technology into any product you can imagine with the launch of their Alexa development kit.
It reminds me of when Google did this with their Google toolbar in browsers and Google search add-on on any website. All of a sudden, Google was everywhere. It catalyzed Googles growth and allowed them to collect an unprecedented amount of data, which in turn powered their search engine to a whole new level.
If Alexa is adopted in this way by manufacturers and the consumer, it may push all other digital assistants into oblivion to salvage scraps of a voice revolution that is about to explode as we start speaking to our devices just as we do people.
Pay attention to this trend. Time will tell but you should not bet against it at this point or risk being left behind. Maybe a good idea to start experimenting with and building skills for Alexa and claim the early hype before your competition does. It will all come down to “How much do I trust Amazon?”
