Step aside Google and Amazon. Dubai transport government officials are taking it up a notch and plan to launch autonomous single passenger drone taxis as early as July this year ( yes, 2017!). We may see driver-less drone taxis buzzing through the sky’s of Dubai this year if they can pull it off, according to an announcement made Monday by Mattar Al Tayer, the chief of Dubai’s roads & transportation agency, at the World Government Summit.
The taxi is a Chinese manufactured drone called “Ehang 184”, which can carry a passenger weighing up to 220 pounds for about a 30-minute trip. Test flights are in full swing and they expect to have them commercially available in July 2017.
Will be interesting to see if they can pull this off 🙂
