Jack Ma’s Original Sales Pitch in 1999

Jack Ma practicing his pitch for #Alibaba in 1999.

  1. Position Alibaba as a global player.
  2. Adopt Silicon Valley work ethic. Forget the 9-5. You will lose with this work ethic and should not start on this journey.
  3. Chinese are smarter and more innovative than Americans. If we apply ourselves, one Chinese person can beat 10 Americans.
  4. Internet is a bubble. But the dream of the Internet isn’t. When the bubble busts in the coming years (he was right), Alibaba will be primed for growth.

What I love about this is his enthusiasm and delivery in just 2 min of these 4 key principles that are at the core of Alibaba success:

  1. Think big
  2. Work hard
  3. Believe in yourself
  4. Be patient
